What is a Chiropodist
Specialists in podiatric medicine are experts in all aspects of the foot and ankle. In Ontario, Canada, the undertaking of chiropody by foot specialists is regulated and is defined as “the treatment and prevention of disease or disorders of the foot by therapeutic or orthotic means”.
Chiropodists must pass examinations in order to register and practice, undertake annual continued professional development and undergo extensive training at university/post-graduate level. Many have taken seven or eight years of post-secondary training before beginning to practice. Professionals registered with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario are the only regulated foot professionals educated exclusively in the assessment and treatment of foot disorders.
Our chiropodists have numerous special interests within a wide spectrum of footcare and may be of help to you if you are experiencing pain or discomfort due to conditions such as hammertoes, bunions, arthritis, heel pain, ingrown toenails, corns, calluses, fungal nails, flat feet, plantar warts, or athlete’s foot, to name a few. They can also be useful if you are curious about maintaining general care for your feet, picking the correct shoe size, obtaining footwear inserts or orthotics, as well as suggesting stretches or exercises to help strengthen your feet.
If you are experiencing any problems involving your feet, ankles, or foot related lower limb problem, consider seeing us for an assessment and treatment regime.
